Workshop 2: Creating a Dialogue on a Research Agenda for Sustainable Resource Development - Nov 6, 2010
Growing world population, the imperative of reducing extreme poverty, the push for the materials required for a transition to renewable energy, increasing competition with other land uses, a growing voice for community concerns, scarcity of water and energy, and many other drivers are transforming the minerals industries.
The challenge of meeting the world's material needs has never been greater, and is driving a new and much broader research agenda, involving a broader range of disciplines and a need for understanding across disciplinary boundaries.
The workshop was attended by approximately 34 faculty and students from 20 departments across campus. The four thematic areas of discussion were: indigenous peoples policy, resettlement, community health, and Latin America. Guest speakers were:
